Present Versus Old Definitions of Power
The definitions of Power
“Possession of control, authority, or influence over others” — with emphasis, of course, on possession of such.
A power that does not become dynamic and energetic is a
useless one — even though there is a latent copy for it in the genetic
background of each individual.
“Possession of control, authority, or influence over others” — with emphasis, of course, on possession of such.
The second definition, which is omitted from some
contemporary dictionaries, is given as: “A particular active property,
capacity, or faculty of body or mind.”
“Ability to act or affect something strongly; to physical or mental force; to might, vigor, and energy; to force of character.”
Each individual of our species is a carrier of human powers, and is therefore not only important but also valuable.
Marquis de Vauvenargues, the French moralist and
epigrammatist, who indicated “Consciousness of our powers augments
them.” This can be rephrased to read: “Becoming conscious of our powers
starts up their activation.”
